POOR TOWN PERFORMANCE
Hanley Town drop points at Potteries Park after a 3-0 defeat to Padiham on saturday
Padiham went close 5minutes into the first half O'Brien latching onto a long punt from Padiham keeper Donlon,O'Brien low cross from the right found Pickup whose 8yard effort was superbly blocked by Town defender J.Bristow.Thee minutes later Town keeper Jackson long clearance found it's way through to D.Cope,Cope's 18yard volley palmed away by Padiham keeper Donlon.Two minutes later Town's Edwards run and shot from the edge of the Padiham penalty area was blocked by Parkes.
On 12minutes Hanley's M.Stanyer run and 15yard shot was comfortably saved by Donlon.A minute later Padiham's Dean controlled twisted and turned on the edge of the Hanley penalty area creating space to fire just over the crossbar.Padiham took a deserved lead on 20minutes when a headed clearance from a Padiham corner found O'Brien whose daisy cutter of a shot found it's way through a ruck of players and into the net.
On 25minutes a good move involving Stanyer,Stair and Edwards ended with an Edwards cross from the right only inches to high for the onrushing Cope for a clear header at goal.Padiham increased their lead on 30minutes,Hanley cleared a Padiham corner from the right but O'Brien collected the loose ball before whipping a cross from the right to the far post for Dean to guide an header into the roof of the net.On 37minutes Padiham should have had a third O'Brien's throughball released Pickup his 15yard low shot was superbly blocked by Town's Bristow,O'Brien latched onto the loose ball his cross from the left to the back post found Dean his volley back accross the 6yard box almost found Craig who was only inches away from a simple tap in.
Just before the interval Padiham created another good chance a Walker long clearance found Pickup who raced clear down the left of the Hanley penalty area,Pickup's unselfishly layed the ball accross the 6yard box for Dean to simply tap in only for a superb goaline clearance by Town captain Stanyer.

Hanley started the second half the better and had a chance to get back into the game on 50minutes Stair received the ball on the left of the Padiham's penalty area Stair's cross hit the hand of Brieley,the referee without hesitation pointing to the spot,but Stairs penalty was saved by Donlon.Five minutes later Padiham's O'Brien's pass found Pickup clean through only for his 18yard shot brilliantly parried over the crossbar by Town keeper Jackson.Two minutes later a Jackson goalkick for Hanley was flicked on by Cope Stair raced onto the ball to stab a 12yard shot under pressure by Parkes and Walker only for keeper Donlon to save.
On the hour mark Hanley's Cope was sent clear down the right of the Padiham penalty area unable to get much power behind the shot but keeper Donlon still had to get down to his near post parry around the post.Two minutes later Parkes cleared off the foot of the onrushing Stanyer from a Stair low cross from the left.On 70minutes another long clearance caught out the Hanley defence ,Dean found himself clean through on goal Dean's 15yard volley was straight at Town keeper Jackson to save.
Two minutes later Padiham got a third to end any hope of a comeback for Hanley,Padiham's Craig run down the left and low dangerous cross,Hanley's defence was slow to clear the danger and Dean reacted quickest to turn and cross for Pickup to curl a superb 15yard angled volley in/off the far post.On 80minutes Hanley had a great chance to pull a goal back Stair's surging run down the right to the byline,Stair's pull back found Mellor whose 12yard shot was superbly saved by Padiham keeper Donlon,the ball falling for Errico's whose shot was blocked by two Padiham defenders with Stanyer firing the loose ball over the crossbar from 20yards.
On 85minutes Stanyer stabbed another shot at goal under pressure by two Padiham defenders 10yards from goal latching onto a Stair flick.In injury time a Stair run and low cross from the right found Errico whose 15yard shot was blocked.
A deserved victory for the visitor's who adapted to the dry conditions of the pitch much better and could have won by a bigger margin. As for Hanley a poor performance today means a top 10 finish is that bit more difficult to achieve with teams below Hanley with games in hand.
